Boxing Club
During one casting job we were looking for mixed martial arts fighters, boxers and other guys who can hit and kick. Besides the modern gyms we spent time at sweaty underground cellars. Seems pretty rude and sticky. So far I hadn’t find any reason why one should choose fighting sports as a profession or hobby. Yet after learning it more closely I got into it.
Besides the skill of protecting yourself when needed and the obvious physical aspect of having a healthy and fit body, I found that the mental and cultural sides of martial arts scene are worth digging. The posters and diplomas attached on the walls of gyms offered a great time travel in the history of fight matches, as well in graphic design. The animals, Greek Gods, Tikis, symbols of power and flowers were all happily together engraved next to the scars and bruises on the skin of fighters. Representing the hopes and fears. What an awesome source of personal stories.
